Finding the Meaning of Human Life

I received the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior in 1993 when I was a graduate student back home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Before receiving the Lord, I was filled up with a number of questions that could not be answered by anyone. I had a strong question on the meaning and purpose of life itself. I always got lost in inquires such as: Why am I created? What is the purpose of my creation? What will happen when I die? Who is in control of my life? As soon as I received the Lord in 1993, my questions were partially and superficially answered in a sense that I knew a lot of Christ’s love and his redemption. My question which is deep in my heart about the purpose of God in my life was not however answered as I still felt that God did not send His Son Jesus only to save me from eternal perdition.

I came to the United States in 2005 to do a postdoctoral research at the chemistry department here at USF. Not long after this, I was walking by the Marshall Center one day and I saw a bunch of people distributing free study Bibles (Bibles For America) for students and the other community at USF. I was very happy to see the distribution of the Bibles and I approached one of them named Tom and asked him to give me a Bible. The study Bible I received was a new version of the Bible and it is a little different from the other versions that I know of and it is called the Recovery Version Bible. After an exciting and splendid fellowship with Tom that day, we decided to have a small group Bible study meetings every Monday at Marshall Center. The Bible study helped me a lot to grow in my Christian life and my questions about the purpose of God in me was gradually revealed and unveiled to me.

Now, I know that God created me to dispense His life into me so that I would express Him. I am a vessel that can be filled with God’s life for God’s expression. The bible study fellowships are still continuing at Marshall Center and every time I go to this bible study meetings, I am filled with God’s life and constituted with Himself. So, I encourage everyone to get the Recovery version of the Bible and to go the Monday Bible study meetings in Marshall Center.
